my favorite things + gift guide

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

I recently started compiling some of my favorite things on a new social media site called Luvocracy. Lots of people have been asking about my gear so there’s a whole gallery of basically all the equipment that I use and where to buy it. I also went ahead and started a board of gift ideas from my favorite local and/or small businesses that I’ll be adding to over the next couple of weeks (mostly under $50). I’m not a big shopper but it’s helping me organize my wants and I’ve been finding great recommendations from other bloggers like Jessica and Jonathan.

See my recommendations for stuff to make you pretty, stuff to make you cozy and stuff to wear.

Also, my favorite art and photo books.

You can join Luvocracy and share your finds too.

wild flowers

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Grabbed these beauties at the flower mart early one morning while shopping for the show. I love how crazy and wild and delicate they are and am surprised I’ve never seen them before–do you know what they are?

box of memories

Monday, April 25th, 2011

I keep this box just for storing old photos and postcards. I love old photographs and these are the ones I’ve never categorized. I was looking for something recently and ended up back in the box.

The postcard my french grandmother wrote to my american grandparents about me being born. The front and back of this postcard are kind of equally amazing.

One of my first big trips to the desert. And also one of my first 3rd degree sunburns.

One of my dad’s first places in Venice after he moved to the states and a shot of the two of us in Grenoble.

My mom in her wedding dress.

My parents at my grandparents’ house after the wedding (opening presents?). I grew up in that house and have that credenza (and the lamp and the love seat).

Oh nostalgia.

(this was reveal day on this episode)

I’m obsessed with this giant cactus down the street from me. It’s makes me happy to live in Los Angeles.

good morning

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Morning is my favorite time. If I could get everything done by 11:30am I would be happy. As it is, I think I get 80% of my day done by then, and then the rest is dragged out.

Eggs, tortillas, avocado and some salsa. This is breakfast every morning.

galette des rois!

Monday, January 10th, 2011

In celebration of 12th night (slash just an excuse to hang out and eat tons of amazing food and CAKE!) I got together with family and friends over the weekend and partook in some of the best gratin of my life (apparently the key is white wine, creme fraiche and gruyere and of course lots of garlic), many dishes that involved bacon (one was brussels sprouts and the other salad) and multiple galettes des rois (oh and glasses of wine, too).

It was a nice reminder that traditions are fun when they’re an excuse to see people you love, hide toys in food and wear paper crowns.

getting set up

Friday, January 7th, 2011

So I’ve been living in the new place almost a month and it’s coming together. So far I have:

painted the living room

hung new rods and curtains

painted the bathroom

installed shelf and mirror in the bathroom

attempted to organize these shelves

installed the shelf attachment to my mid century credenza (this was hard, I had some good help)

bought butterfly chairs, rug, coffee table for the living room

gotten rid of a lot of stuff

I would still like to:

cull my closet

paint the bedroom
paint the kitchen

get my butcher block out of storage and put it in the kitchen

buy a couch (ahem)

The couch is the first thing–I think I’m going to pull the trigger on one I saw this week. Then I can actually have people over and offer them more than a dining room chair to sit in.

What are your plans this weekend?
