Lots of shooting, little messes piling up, falling behind and looking forward to a bunch of projects and news I’ve got cooking. Also going through the archives to update this place. And I really just want to hang out drinking egg nog with my friends and soak up the end of what has been, really, an excellent year. Excited to set my intentions for the next.
This is a little behind the scenes shot from a recent shoot at Cortez that you’ll see more of soon.
Some links for fun because I don’t normally:
Miss Moss looked at my blog.
The flashdance seriously knows how to rock a party and has mixes you can listen to online.
Please tell me that you’re watching Nashville. If only so we can sing along to this song together.
The most popular picture I’ve ever posted to instagram is obviously of hazel.

I switched to this blush and instantly got compliments.
I want these wooden sunglasses made in san francisco.
The Echo Park Craft Fair is this weekend, but it’s downtown, across from Poketo. Can’t wait.

This is the first full week I’ll be spending in LA since the middle of july! I’m so happy to be at home even though it’s so hot I want to die. I promise to share about shooting the book with Yellow Owl Workshop, shooting in Palm Springs with Sharon Montrose and then the rest of the pictures from france! For now LA is calling. Taking it all in: bougainvillea, crepe myrtle, popsicles, late night walks in the hot air, sleepover parties, cocktails, and taking care of things around the house. It’s been a whirlwind and I need a little bit of time to get recalibrated. How’s everyone else doing?

Kids, I’m home sick this week and as much as I keep attempting a real post, all I can manage is spending a lot of time on twitter, watching downton abbey and replying to the most urgent emails. Everything else is on hold.
Please excuse me while I drink the pukka tea I brought back from london with the sweet little rosebuds I add for magical healing.

A couple months ago I wrote an article for Sunset about Jon and Tyke’s House and right after Jess Chamberlain my editor on the story asked me if I wanted to share my 5 favorite showrooms in LA that double as a little something more: a gallery, a planting station, a music venue, etc. We spent the day scouting the places I wanted to feature and now, months later, my picks are in this month’s issue of Sunset and I’m featured as the SoCal Insider.
Among my picks (and this probably won’t come as any kind of surprise to those that read regularly) are Heath Ceramics (and their rotating gallery space), Potted in Atwater (and their new potting station and workshops) and Tortoise in Venice (look out for a tea workshop and rotating exhibits). I’m really thrilled that I was able to share these great places with such a large audience.
It also meant that I had to pose for photos instead of shooting them. Andrea Gomez was awesome though and I’ll take some tips from her the next time I’m shooting people.

We picked out paint colors (it was epic) for the house and it should be all painted by the end of the week (except for the kitchen which I plan to paint either a dark grey or black and will do myself so that the landlords don’t freak out right away). Here are some of the images I was pulling from for inspiration.
Overall I wanted to keep the walls a nice soft grey, darker in the dining room, kitchen and master bedroom (which is by no means master sized) so that I can throw in colorful accessories for an accent but will have nice contrast between the wood floors, grey walls and white trim. it’s the quickest I’ve ever chosen colors for an entire house. Normally I agonize, but I’m getting a lot faster at decision making and knowing what I want. I also know it’s just paint

Found these pictures over on A Cup of Jo and just love them. These images are the reason that I loved living in venice. Small spaces done just right. A little euro and a little fun. If I could live with this little stuff and that much space and order all the time I would. Alas, it’s basically physically impossible since I love things and need stuff like 5 cake stands.
A funny aside is that I sent this to my dad and it turns out that the studio belongs to a friend of his. Small World!
If you’re interested i renting it for a week at a time and spending some quality time in venice, check out the details. And if you do, tell him that Laure sent you. Then I’ll give you all my tips for hanging out in Venice.
What about you? Would you be able to live in such a small space and keep it neat?

Wow, what a vacation! Lots of time to think and plot and plan. I have some new work happening early this year (including 2 shoots this week) and hope to carve out time to expand my freelance writing, do a really awesome small space makeover and launch a new and improved photo site.
One of the highlights of vacation was getting to spend time with old friends a couple of days ago. We spent a long time admiring Thea’s parents’ vegetable garden.
Here’s to growing an abundant life in 2010!
