About to head up to san francisco for some shoots and wanted to share these photos from my last trip. They’re from the foggy walk I took on my last day in the city after helping Yellow Owl Workshop make a book (here’s a candid) along with Miranda Jones. I slipped away trying to take in as much of the cold weather as I possible could. 100 degree temps were waiting for me in LA, but on this walk, I had my puffy jacket on and my hair blowing around my face. And it was glorious.

some pretty good moments on instagram

Fall is finally here? And without the oppressive heat I can think again and I’m remembering some of what I’ve been wanting to share. Consider this a catch up, getting us all back up to speed:

1st Row:
Jessica gave me this amazing incense that I swear helped usher in Fall, it was my birthday! and sort of unrelated matchbox kitchen made a beautiful cake that some of my favorite ladies and I devoured, I love my neighborhood and am having to ration how many photos of it I instagram.

2nd Row:
Bianca and I share a birthday (9/28) and we celebrated at midnight at our favorite taco truck (one of my favorite moments in the history of birthdays, it filled me with joy and seemed to negate any of the bad stuff that has ever happened), Miranda and Christine sent me the most beautiful Holly Flora Bouquet for my birthday and I was so touched that I teared up, an indulgent self portrait showing off my favorite (and affordable, what?) spitfire sunglasses.

3rd Row:
So much fun was had at my birthday! We went to a dive bar and so many people that I love showed up that I was actually kind of taken aback, More on this soon, but did I mention that I shot for Martha Stewart? Because I totally did and during a break we saw this fern at Dream Collective, Kate made me this beautiful necklace for my birthday, thanks Kate.

4th Row:
Ali braided Kate’s hair and it was so pretty (more on braids stuff soon because let’s just say a lot of people want in on this action), this is currently my favorite soap (you have to smell it, it is so fresh and subtle), and finally, more evidence that I am in love with los angeles.

home again on instagram

This is the first full week I’ll be spending in LA since the middle of july! I’m so happy to be at home even though it’s so hot I want to die. I promise to share about shooting the book with Yellow Owl Workshop, shooting in Palm Springs with Sharon Montrose and then the rest of the pictures from france! For now LA is calling. Taking it all in: bougainvillea, crepe myrtle, popsicles, late night walks in the hot air, sleepover parties, cocktails, and taking care of things around the house. It’s been a whirlwind and I need a little bit of time to get recalibrated. How’s everyone else doing?

crested butte in instagram

Crested Butte was a little like summer camp. The plane ride over was full of friends all going to the wedding, I ate ice cream every day, went kayaking with the ladies, took lots of pictures of the sky, drove around with the windows down, saw cows, hung out in a teepee, saw a double rainbow, slept in a bunk bed made of logs, saw the worlds largest aspen forest, hot tubbed and watched the olympics. Oh, and Morgan and I shot keith and alissa’s wedding (peek). All in a day’s work.

weekend instagram

In an effort keep this blog more up to date I’m planning on sharing my instagrams more often, especially for those of you who aren’t on instagram (I’m @ljoliet if you want to follow me). Spent the weekend with new friends in Santa Barbara and brought lots of photo gear with me to document everything but ended up being pretty lazy. We made crepes in honor of bastille day, hung out at the beach, got margaritas and relaxed. We took the long way home and then I went for a long walk in elysian park. Oh glorious California.

weekend in chicago

Chicago was: my first great lake, vines, heat, walking, old fashioneds, deep dish, mary’s going away parties, car rides, the promises (and abandonments) of a road trip to milwaukee, anne sather cinnamon rolls, meeting and loving debbie, old buildings, the suburbs, mary’s family’s sunday dinner, meatballs, big glasses of milk, the biggest bowl of ice cream I’ve ever been served in my life, a gas station with no gas, radiohead, cargo shorts, humidity, late night pancakes, sausage, more beer, a place called kankakee, dean’s house.
